Purpose
The philosophy that is taught at the School of Wisdom
Philosophy is a purely practical and applied philosophy.
That is; a philosophy that can be applied to everyday
life for the purpose of:
Gaining
EMOTIONAL
WELLBEING
Finding
PEACE OF
MIND
Learning
the secrets to SELF
MASTERY

Philosophy
will not be studied so much for its own sake. Rather,
the teachings that will be given will be directly
related to how to put this into practice to improve
our everyday lives. Therefore the teachings will
be simple and relatable without losing any depth
or sophistication. More...
Philosophical
Focus
To begin with, this whole philosophical investigation
stands on the hypothesis or belief that the human
mind and consciousness is capable of freeing itself
from suffering. Or at the very least, capable of
significantly reducing its level of suffering to
the point where a life can be lived that is generally
happy, fulfilled and meaningful. At its most ideal,
the full pursuit of spiritual enlightenment, which
means a level of attainment high enough to shift
one beyond the physical plane into spiritual dimensions
of consciousness and out of the reach of the rounds
of reincarnation or samsara (rebirth and
suffering). This is the path of Self-mastery. This
involves the recognition of the evolution of consciousness
as a Cosmic evolutionary phenomenon over and above
the material/animal evolution of a planet-bound
ecosystem for example.
A
mixture of ancient and modern philosophy that is
aligned to this belief is used as the basis of the
teaching.
Ancient
Philosophy
It is said we live in the age of technology,
but I think more importantly it is the age of information.
Never before in the history of humanity have we
had so much access to recorded information from
all ages and cultures. This is exciting, revealing
and also potentially confusing. Material science
said it was going to solve all of humanity's problems.
This has not come to pass. The various religions
of the world claimed the same thing with similar
results. We are now in the age where we can step
back and have an objective look at what really does
work. There have been many great men and woman in
religion, science and philosophy in general, from
Pythagorus to the Dalia Lama who have proven themselves
worthy examples of what they teach. For many years
now we have been in the position to identify the
common elements that effect positive change in people
and their communities. The focus of ancient philosophy
will reflect this practical approach.
Modern
Wisdom Philosophy
I refer to it as modern "wisdom" philosophy
to distinguish it from modern academic philosophy.
Academic philosophy is somewhat intellectual and
not so readily applied to improving one's everyday
life in any real depth. Wisdom philosophy's sole
purpose is to create positive change in your everyday
life as efficiently and effectively as possible.
It is very heart/feeling based and recognises the
essential element of love as the transforming power
and the philosophy's strength. Examples of modern
Wisdom philosophy that are extensively used in this
school are Jack Cornfield's contemporary style of
Buddhism, Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now",
Neal Donald Walsh's "Conversations with God"
books and the 5-Step Process developed by Phil Golding,
Theosophical literature such as the works of Alice
A. Bailey, The Course in Miracles, The Urantia Book
and other important works.
Truth
Realisation
(Higher order thinking, Intuitive
comprehension of the Cosmic Laws of Consciousness)
Current mainstream academic institutes and universities
teach and foster objective rational analysis. This
form of intellectual attainment is centered and
restricted to the lower concrete mind and the next
level of abstract thinking and processing. This
level of academic learning is important for the
development and discipline of the lower mind. Much
true intuitive thought occurs in these halls of
learning, but is not officially recognised and valued
as a legitimate approach to learning. Because of
this, transcendental consciousness and higher-order
thinking is rarely seriously studied, little understood
and most often even denied. At the School of Wisdom
Philosophy we not only recognise these higher levels
of mind and consciousness, we will also teach you
how to access them and attain them. Not only that,
the necessary quality of the future leadership of
our planet depends on it. As part of learning this
higher-order ability to think (like thinking and
feeling in unison) you will learn how recognise
the essential transformative value of any teaching
and associated literature. You will also have the
opportunity to gain an increasing understanding
of the meaning of life and death from an evolution
of consciousness perspective, and how you can play
your part in alleviating suffering on this planet
and raising the collective consciousness of humanity.
Higher
Purpose
Humanity is going through a dramatic period in its
development. A new consciousness is being born -
one that strives for world peace, global goodwill
and cooperation as well as harmony with the environment.
This push began in a real visible form in the 1960s
but now it has matured and is grounded in an intelligent
approach to this great task. There is much resistance
by those who hold on to material power to the detriment
of the highest good. However, the shift is inevitable,
for the Aquarian age has come. We can each contribute
to this great world movement by enlightening our
own minds and being an example of the new consciousness
that is centered in the heart and is in tune with
the wisdom of the ages.
