Enhancing your Total Self
There are many myths about meditation that often prevent people from taking advantage of the benefit it can bring to their lives. To put it simply, meditation is not about escaping from reality or switching off, it is about building a conscious and caring relationship with your whole self - body, mind and spirit. This improved inner-relationship improves your relationship with others as well as enhancing your ability to achieve your goals. The healing power of meditation lies largely with the conscious intentional attitude we cultivate to embrace our inner-selves. This attitude is one of loving kindness and acceptance towards our human self. This is then empowered by making a firm commitment to caringly take personal responsibly for all that the mind feels, thinks, says and does. This positive conscious inner-focus highlights and clears out self-defeating attitudes, thus releasing us from confusion and painful conflict. Peace of mind, freedom from stress and anxiety is the inevitable result.

Breath
Breath is another essential element to meditation. By consciously focusing on our breath with this positive attitude we literally draw positive energy into our body and mind, which can bring immediate and long-term benefit to our emotional and physical wellbeing. Focusing on the breath also quietens the mind and helps us detach from and gain perspective on important issues in our life. The forms of Yoga this approach especially relates to is Raja and Agni Yoga. This approach will also compliment any Hatha styles of Yoga.

Philosophy
This meditation course is non-religious. My philosophical approach (the 5-Step Process for Healing, Wisdom and Empowerment) is universal and individual centered. In other words, I endeavor to help each person find their own answers and gain the most out of whatever path they are following. The philosophical framework that I present has proven to be a powerful tool for awakening, is practical and easily adaptable.

Practitioner's Skills
My meditation practice began in 1984. Through my own efforts I overcame chronic depression fifteen years ago and continued to develop the ability to be self-empowered and centered in calm abiding. I now have a private psychotherapy practice and manage a complimentary therapies center. I offer these skills as part of being a meditation teacher and I believe they enable me to be more aware of your individual needs.

Ongoing Support
This meditation course gives each graduate entry into the other Inner Harmony Wisdom Philosophy School activities, which include a weekly meditation class and a fortnightly wisdom philosophy class. I encourage each student to take advantage of these ongoing resources to maintain and continue to deepen their meditation practice.

The Special Interactive Teaching Style
To ensure you gain the most from the meditation course, a special interactive teaching style is used. This involves taking you gradually into the meditation process step-by-step. While the class is in meditation, I check in with each student on a frequent basis in order to stay in touch with each persons ongoing meditation experience at each stage of the process. This way I am able to help each person effectively move beyond the blocks and distractions of the mind and drop deeper into the meditation experience.

With this interactive teaching style I can stay in touch with the unique needs of each student. I can help each student understand themselves better and thus gain the most from the meditation process. As the course unfolds the meditation experience is broadened and deepened, and as always, tailored to fit each individual student's needs as much as possible. By the end of the course each student will have a direct experience of how to maintain an effective meditation practice that fits practically into their everyday lives and enhances every aspect of their lives.

Aspects of meditation that will be covered and practiced:
Relaxation, Breathing, Concentration, Detachment, Insight/Clarity, Wisdom, Opening the Heart, the Inner-Self, Journaling, Self-awareness and maintaining a daily practice.

How the ongoing Group and the Teaching Process Works
The beginners group is held on Mondays evenings on a fortnightly basis.  In these groups the basic meditation process is taught and practiced.  The philosophy (The 5-Step Process) provides the clarity that enables the meditation student to pull free of the turbulent mind and observe the mind's endless comings and goings without judgement (judgement meaning self-condemnation or the condemnation of others).  Rather than being forever at the mercy of the mind's emotional reactions and confusion, the meditation student learns to manage the mind with loving compassion, kindness and intelligent heart/love directed discipline.  The result is increasing calm, insight and joy.  The layers of past confusion and emotional hurt that get trapped in the mind's memory system is also healed as the meditator gains more skill in the process.

Personal Tutoring
It is suggested also that each new student has at least one private session with the meditation instructor (Phil Golding).  The meditation process is similar to Buddhist Insight Meditation, an empowering meditation process that is taught in many Buddhist traditions.  Insight meditation enables the lower "survival" mind (human self), with its primal instincts, conditioned confusions and painful emotions, to be brought under the control of the higher conscious awareness of the individual (also referred to as Soul in other spiritual traditions).  The sincere practice of insight meditation enables the meditator to achieve increasing states of calm, self-mastery and joy etc.
One of the most difficult aspects of this meditation is being able to open your heart of love to your own humanness.  It is quite normal to have many hardened layers of self-judgement built up around one's heart due to not receiving unconditional love as a child.  These self-judgements often turn into defenses that wall off our vulnerabilities even to our own attempts at loving ourselves.  One can spend years attempting to break through this accumulated confusion without success.  However, in just one to a few private sessions with the meditation instructor, who has achieved this break through on many essential levels, important breakthroughs can be made for the student.  This "initiation" enables the meditation students to gain far more benefit from their meditation practice and much more quickly than otherwise.  Out of his own compassion, Phil offers such sessions for the small suggested donation of $50.  (No sincere person is turned away)
Often meditation practice reveals deeper issues that need to be addressed through psychotherapy.  Phil is also an experienced psychotherapist with his own successful private practice.  If psychotherapy is needed, Phil will work out an appropriate strategy with the meditation student.  This ensures that rapid progress is achieved that is also managed in a safe and skilful way.
