The Purpose of the School of
Wisdom Philosophy

Laws of Consciousness: We offer a framework that enables us to recognise universal laws of consciousness so that we may live successfully and harmoniously in accordance with these natural laws. In nature or science something is regarded as a natural law if when that law is invoked it will cause inevitable and predictable results. Laws of consciousness therefore effect and govern the human mind. If we act out of tune with these laws, confusion and suffering is the inevitable result. This is not some God punishing us. It is no more personal then feeling the effects of gravity when we are careless and don't watch were we are going. The 5-Step Process is one such frame work. (See next page)

Free choice: The School of Wisdom Philosophy is part of a worldwide network of schools and social/spiritual movements that believe we all have the right to peace, harmony, freedom and fulfillment. Further more, we belief that this is the natural state of the human mind that is free of confusion. We believe that the deepest level of human knowing is unconditional love. We believe that this capacity of unconditional love does not have to be learned as such but rather awakened to. We believe that every human being is capable of consciously sensing this deep inner-knowing and then freely choosing to act in accordance to this higher knowing. Frameworks like the 5-Step Process and other philosophical frameworks like it, ancient and modern, are designed to help the individual identify and personally experience their deep capacity for love. Having experienced our true nature, it is only natural that we choose to live by it for no other reason than it works. It is inevitable then that our lives improve.

Learning the Lessons of Life: If love is something that we simply reawaken to rather than learn, why do we say that every experience in life is an opportunity to learn something? What then do we need to learn? The human mind can be seen as dual-a lower-self and a Higher-Self. This framework can also be extended into three parts. The lower-self (instinctual survival mind, unconscious conditioned habits), Higher-Self (wisdom, unconditional love, intuition) and in between these higher and lower dimensions of the mind we can find the ego, or consciousness. It is at the level of ego consciousness that we actively choose our directions in life. (When we identify ourselves only as a physical body/mind we tend to label this capacity for consciousness the "ego," which is limited in its ability to perceive life beyond the physical. When the ego realizes there is a higher spiritual reality influencing his or her life and begins to actively serve this higher reality, the ego is then referred to as just consciousness. It is during the transition between these two stages of being that we really experience ourselves as a duality, or a higher and lower self). However, this is not the only level of our mind that determines how our life unfolds. At the level of our lower mind our unconscious conditioned habits are continually choosing for us without us even knowing it, and often these unconscious choices are overriding any choice our ego consciousness may make. This unconscious conditioning is largely created during our childhood, including our teenage years. If this conditioning is not in accordance to the laws of consciousness, then we will continue to act out of tune with nature and suffering will be the inevitable result. At first our ego does not understand what is going on. It sees itself as a helpless victim to these unsatisfactory outcomes of life. It often gets angry and looks for someone to blame for its suffering. We are all suffering from some degree of confusion so it is very easy to find someone to blame because we all make mistakes sooner or later. However, in time, the ego may realise that blame and other such reactions are ultimately self-defeating and do not lead to peace, harmony, freedom and fulfillment. The ego goes on a search for the answers to its own suffering and perhaps also the suffering of others. Inevitably this search results in the investigation of philosophy-the laws of consciousness in other words.

However, just studying these laws and endlessly analysing them is not enough. The ego is still suffering despite all this knowledge. The ego realises that these laws have to be put into action. This endeavor to act in accordance with the laws of consciousness drops the ego into a deeper level of learning. The ego suddenly discovers its limitations and a personal identity crisis is often the result due to discovering how powerless it really is in its identity as a physical body/mind. Through the transition of the identity crisis, the ego discovers it is more then just a body. It discovers that it is even more than its thinking mind. It also discovers that its own confused unconscious conditioning is the cause of its suffering, not the outside world. It tries to change this conditioning but with little effect. Another crisis may result when it despairs at not being able to even change itself. As a result the ego has to search deeper and inevitably discovers its Higher-Self, the real power that can transform the mind.
The ego becomes Consciousness and serves the greater knowing of the Higher-Self. With this higher knowing we then turn back to our confused human unconscious mind and begin to take care of it like a loving parent would toward a beloved child. The conscious or awakened ego realises that this is the only way to lift a confused human mind out of its confusion. Therefore the learning is about becoming a loving parent to our own confused human self. We discover that our humanness is always worthy of love and that it is our responsibility to love it, not someone else's responsibility. We discover the key to adult maturity, integrity and wisdom. Buy learning to love ourselves responsibly, we in turn, discover how to create loving and harmonious relationships with others. Therefore the learning is about learning how to be a loving and responsible parent to our own human self. This is self-mastery.

At the School of Wisdom Philosophy we believe that this is the true purpose of philosophy. This also reveals the true nature of our Being-not just love, but to be able to actively create love in the face of all circumstances. This is the power of a true Master and a destiny open to us all.
